1. Join AEGS-L
Before you do anything else, join AEGS-L by sending an email to AEGS-L[at]usc.edu. This is the general listserve maintained by English graduate students for students. Faculty members do not have access to the listserve, but they can (and will) forward important information to AEGS.
2. Pay your fees
Every semester, you may need to pay an incidental fee (around $100). You can pay this fee electronically by going to MyUSC Portal (https://my.usc.edu/portal/guest.php). Under “Student Links” find “USCe.pay.” Click and the website will take you through the steps. Failure to pay the fee in time will mean a mean and pricey late fee—as I discovered one semester!
3. Create a student profile
If you wish, you can create a personal profile and webpage by going to http://dornsife.usc.edu/. Click “mydornsife” on the top-right corner of the page. Enter your user/password information. Then click on “My Personal Information” and then “My Professional Information.” The website will take you through the various steps. It’s easy!
4. Set up dental insurance account
As a grad students of the English department, you get limited dental insurance. The current dental insurer is Delta Dental. They will cover between 7-8 % of the total cost. To get started, you need to create an online account with them–go to http://www.deltadentalins.com/. When the system asks you to enter your employee number, enter your USC student ID number.
Tip: before signing up for a procedure, e.g., a filling or cleaning, make sure you know exactly how much the procedure will cost and how much money you will need to pay.
I can’t think of anything else at the moment.
